So I almost have these bookcases styled to a point where I can leave it alone for a while… almost. I’m not really in love with either shelf with the pinks and the purples, but I think I need to walk away from it for a bit. I also really wanted the white leather “M” on one of the shallower shelves next to some books, but it somehow kept getting pulled out… I will have to try to work it back in at some point. I do wish I could let things “breathe” a bit more, but I don’t have that luxury. One day, I’ll live in a house with 4 bedrooms, a garage, an office, a studio, a library, a gourmet kitchen, a laundry room, a living room, a dining room, a sitting room AND a family room, but today is not that day. So I can’t pretend I don’t have stuff in a two bedroom 980 square foot apartment. I’m lucky I have a tiny laundry room! Giving away valuable space so items can “breathe” is likely a luxury I can’t afford. Alright, I might have finally convinced myself of that…
We still actually still have some things we need to purchase for this wall; to our surprise, you can add the billy extension unit to the 15″ D billys, so they are on our shopping list! We also need to buy the rest of the doors for the lower half; the doors shown here are doors we bought years ago! All of the shelf space that will be covered by the doors is reserved for storage, but I haven’t really put much there since Laelia loves to get into it. The lower shelf space on the right is reserved for all of our drawing paper and my portfolios. I’d love to get some sort of swing arm filing system installed, and I’m on the hunt for something that will work. I found a pant hanger system that I could install, but I don’t think it could hold large and heavy pads of paper… any ideas would be awesome! Also, we still planning on using some chair rail and other moulding pieces to make this look seamless, since there is a 2.5″ gap between the 15″ and the 11″ bookcases. I’m going to use this space to store items that come in long tubes; mostly wrapping paper & specialty paper, but also my blocking kit (for knitting & crocheting). I think we’ll just put part of the molding on a hinge so you can access it. We will be cutting some of the extra shelves and using them to close the gap between the extension unit and the ceiling; ideally, we’ll have our library lamps installed in them first. this means we need to cut a small hole out of the backing of the second bookcase, in order to use the outlet there, but it will be covered by the door. I also kind of want to paint the backing some color, but I really am enjoying the pop of all of my white and gold items off of the dark. So dramatic! I think we’ll do it if the new colors in the room demand it.
I’ll be spray painting some of the small bottles and frames you see here gold or white over the next few days, so stay tuned!
