Today I bring you the first in a series of invitation sets that I have photographed for my lovely friend Beth Albrecht. I’ve mentioned her a lot here on Visual Vocabulary; she is part owner of the WonderCraft, my predecessor at babystyle, owner of paired hearts, one of my bridesmaids, and my other bff from high school whom I became close with in AP art… (She is also the subject of these invitations I designed). She understood that I needed a new camera, and also loves the way I photograph my invitations so she offered up a little exchange; a new camera for a photo shoot! Well, how could a girl in need of a camera and things to photograph refuse! :)
These are the invitations Beth designed for her own nuptials in September of 2006. As I’m typing this, I can see that this was almost five years ago. OMG Beth, you have been married for almost 5 years (and I still have a wine stain on my bridesmaid dress that I keep meaning to get out…)! Anyway, I remember when beth was working on these invites; She was showing me the ropes at babystyle because I was taking over her position, and she was going to travel the world for eleven months on her honeymoon. She designed them in illustrator and then had them letter-pressed at a local shop here in LA (I will find out which shop soon). I think doing her own invitations may have been a huge inspiration for her to start designing them when she (finally) came home from her honeymoon. Her wedding was a jewel toned Moroccan fete, and there was peacock feathers in everything from our bouquets to the wraps on the menus! It was beautiful!
I’ll continue to post the other invitation sets as I am through editing them, and my plan is to end on my wedding invitation set which was a fun collaboration between the two of us, and I’ll post my wedding after that. The website and etsy for paired hearts will be updated soon (currently, the WonderCraft is getting a makeover and a store front!), so in the meantime if you are interested in contacting Beth about invitation design work she asks that you email her at beth@pairedhear
Thanks for a great post Jes!
The letterpress place was Aardvark Letterpress, awesome people to work with.
