New Curtain Rods

New Curtain Rods

old_vs_newSo, I finally gave in and bought the newer, better, and less expensive curtain rods from IKEA. Damn, these things are awesome, and I’m super bummed we’ve waited so long to buy them. It makes such a huge difference for such a cheap price! The most expensive item from the lot are the finials, at $4.99 a pair…

Let’s remember what the curtains in here used to look like, from my last update:living_spaceSo so sad. Also, you’ll note that  we have added blinds to the left two windows since this photo was taken. I finally found more blinds from the as-is section, and trimmed  them to fit! ($10 and $15, respectively). And Laelia busted the glass in our old temporary coffee table. So, this old LACK table that has been in Laelia’s room has now become our temporary coffee table. I do love the way the color plays with the door, though…

doorUntitled-1What’s funny is, I’ve always wanted my curtains to look as they do now, but up until recently I never could really figure out how! I’ll share more about that in an in depth post about how to hang curtains, specifically with IKEA hardware!

Backdrop for Bathroom Shelf

Backdrop for Bathroom Shelf

Sarah-Campbell-West-Elm West-Elm-Sarah-CampbellWhen I received this little West Elm mailer, I immediately knew I wanted to use the backside for the background of my little IKEA wall shelf in our bathroom.  The print is the white flower tile print by Sarah Campbell for West Elm.

Lets remember the before, really quick:Bathroom_Progress10

And a close up:Sarah-Campbell-Close-UpI didn’t even use tape, or anything to make it adhere to the backing; I just placed it in there! So easy. Have any of you done a similar up-cycling project?

Brass Sconces from the Flea Market

Brass Sconces from the Flea Market

Brass-Sconce

I found these great brass candle sconces with magnifying glasses yesterday at the flea market. Don’t they look like old vent covers? They are so cool. I’d love the flank them around a painting, but I don’t really have a spot for that arrangement in the apartment, so I just put them around the Syrocco mirror. The painting below is also a flea market find!
